Abstract

The design of the Langkat Riverview Resort draws inspiration from the beauty of the Bahorok River in Langkat Regency, a well-known natural tourist destination. The main idea behind this project is to create a resort that goes beyond accommodation—it becomes a place for rest, interaction, and enjoying the tropical environment in comfort. The design process combined field observations, literature review, case studies of similar resorts, and academic guidance. A tropical architectural approach was chosen for its ability to respond naturally to the hot and humid climate through simple strategies such as cross ventilation, soft daylighting, and the use of local, eco-friendly materials. The resort offers four room types, each positioned along the land’s contours, allowing guests to experience a direct connection with nature from various vantage points. Supporting facilities, including a restaurant, bar, swimming pool, and outdoor recreation areas, enhance the overall experience. The results highlight that when comfort, aesthetics, and natural potential are thoughtfully integrated, the outcome is a resort that delights visitors, strengthens local tourism, benefits the community, and raises awareness of the importance of environmental preservation.
