Abstrak

Tourism serves as a grand stage for Indonesia to showcase its natural beauty and cultural heritage, while simultaneously driving economic growth. North Sumatra shines with its rich cultural diversity and breathtaking landscapes. Pulau Berhala, located in the Serdang Bedagai Regency, is home to remarkable biodiversity, including vibrant coral reefs, sea turtles, and a wealth of marine life. This research proposes the development of an Oceanarium using a sustainable architectural approach serving not only as a tourism magnet but also as a learning space and a gateway to raising awareness about the importance of marine conservation. The proposed design integrates sustainable technologies such as solar panels, wind turbines, and a rainroof system. The methodology includes literature studies on marine ecosystems and sustainability concepts, analysis of Oceanariums from various parts of the world, architectural reviews of Oceanarium facilities, and site analysis and conceptual planning. The primary goal is to formulate a concept that harmonizes with the identity of Pulau Berhala, while offering inspiration for the design of similar conservation facilities elsewhere. More than just a physical structure, this Oceanarium is envisioned as an icon that unites humanity and the ocean in harmony—promoting conservation efforts, captivating visitors, and placing Pulau Berhala on the global map as a world-class center for sustainable education.
