Abstract

The development of a country can be determined by many factors, one of which is education, both formal and non-formal. Non-formal education with a focus on science and technology and education in Indonesia is not supported by the interest of the community, especially in North Sumatra. Currently, North Sumatra is still lacking in this regard, even though there is a high level of interest among the people in North Sumatra regarding science and technology. The existence of educational facilities can help the community to learn while playing and experience it directly. A learning system like this directly engages the users and provides added value for optimizing knowledge and the users' sensory perception. One such educational facility is the Planetarium. A Planetarium is a place to display three-dimensional representations of celestial objects and other celestial phenomena. Planetariums can help the community learn while having fun. Currently, there are very few planetariums in Indonesia. The design of a planetarium is considered to have a positive impact on the progress of science and technology, especially in the field of astronomy, for the city of Medan and its surroundings. In the long term, the design of a planetarium can help develop Medan as one of the centers of education and science, particularly in the field of astronomy in Indonesia
