The project aims to create an ethnic textile gallery that combines the rich culture of North Sumatra with an innovative metaphorical architectural concept. This gallery aims to become a center for education, appreciation, and preservation of the rich ethnic textile heritage of the North Sumatra region, especially in the city of Medan. In its design, this gallery takes inspiration from textile metaphors, depicting the diversity and cultural richness that is characteristic of North Sumatra. The main building of the gallery is built to resemble the shape of a traditional loom, with a landscape that mimics the basic shape of the loom.
In addition, this gallery also combines the concept of "combine metaphor" by adapting elements of North Sumatran ethnic architecture, such as Batak traditional ulos patterns with abstract geometric shapes, creating a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity. The exhibition space is designed by following a flow that flows like a river, leading visitors on a journey that delves into the history, manufacturing process, and cultural meanings behind each textile work on display.
